(Classic) Latterman-...We Are Still Alive

So in honor of these dudes getting back together I decided to post this. Latterman very well could be the best pop punk band ever. This record cuts so deep on levels that all the cheap imitations of them can't even fathom. Fuck "Handguns"  and fuck "Man Overboard" those bands are killing the genre and this band is bringing a pulse of life back to it. They are giving pop punk the kick in the ass that it needs. Instant classics are  "Water Manes at the Block's End", "We Work The Night Shift" and "Good Morning, Here is Jan". Dig it.

Tidal Arms- The Sun Exploting

This band opened up for Glassjaw on their last tour, but still they go unnoticed. I'm not exactly sure how to describe their music. I suppose I could say it has some classic elements of shoegaze, but it's not just that. There's some really interesting grooves on this thing. The instrumental work is really great. The way this record is produced it almost seems like they want it to sound like it's a record made in the mid 90s. This record was self produced. It's too early for me to determine favorite tracks.

Tracklist:
The Dust Collecting
The Sun Exploding
Past Prosperity
Heavy Brainfall
Several Circles
Lower Slaughter
Swarm In Five

Sainthood Reps-Monoculture

This record is quite the debut, an ambitious record at the least. With their first record on Tooth & Nail, Sainthood Reps channels the emotional complexity of Brand New, Seahaven, and Envy On The Coast. This record has dark grooves for days and the singer has a Jesse Lacey way of him. Of course, it doesn't sound too much like Brand New, just enough to notice. They went to Mike Sapone (Brand New, Crime in Stereo) to produce it, and let me tell you, it sounds fantastic. Standout tracks are Monoculture,No/Survival, and Hotfoot.

1. Monoculture
2. DINGUS
3. Telemarketeer
4. Animal Glue
5. Hunter
6. No/Survival
7. Hotfoot

(Classic) Desaparcidos- Read Music/ Speak Spanish [2002]

This is very short lived post hardcore in the vein of Fugazi, super group. They had Coner Fucking Oberst on vocals and guitar, so you what to expect, raw emotional vocals with some of the best lyrics this side of the Mississippi. But this is very different from any Bright Eyes record, the lyrics are said from a kinda omniscient point of view, kinda talking about the world at large instead of personal issues.Favorite tracks include "Mall of America" and "Hole in One". This is by far the best Bright Eyes side project.

  1. "Man and Wife, The Former (Financial Planning)" – 3:16
  2. "MaƱana" – 3:24
  3. "Greater Omaha" – 4:14
  4. "Man and Wife, The Latter (Damaged Goods)" – 3:39
  5. "Mall of America" – 2:41
  6. "The Happiest Place on Earth" – 3:02
  7. "Survival of the Fittest/It's a Jungle Out There" – 2:56
  8. "$$$$" – 5:10
  9. "Hole in One" – 3:08

The Front Bottoms-S/T

Support the hell out of this band. Buy this. See them on tour. This record is so honest that they don't need complex lyrics to make you like them. I suppose you could say they play a sort of folky pop punk or maybe it's closer to indie pop. There are tons of different types of instruments on this record. Recently Anthony from Bayside backed this record and I completely agree. My favorite track is "The Beers".

01 | Flashlight
02 | Maps
03 | Looking Like You Just Woke Up

Tim Kasher- The Game of Monogamy

I thought this is as good a time as any to post this with Cursive announcing they will be releasing a new record next year. This is Tim Kasher's solo record and as far as solo records are this is very good. As you could guess from the title this record it's about growing old. He tackles how strange it is to go from sleeping with someone new every night to being in committed  relationship and how he struggles with it. The essence of the record is in the line "I don't want a kid but I can't keep being one" sung on the song "A Grown Man".

Tracklist:
01 Monogamy Overture
02 A Grown Man
03 I'm Afraid I'm Gonna Die Here
04 Strays
05 Cold Love
06 Surprise, Surprise
07 There Must Be Something I've Lost
08 Bad, Bad Dreams
09 No Fireworks
10 The Prodigal Husband
11 Monogamy

Sundials- Never Settle

This is record is pretty good. It's just simple indie/pop punk/emo in the vein of Tigers Jaw and for some reason I get a bit of a Pinkerton vibe from this. Just some fun light hearted tunes the most of them are. It does wonders when you just wanna clear the mess from your head.

- Either Way
- Never Settle

NORTH KOREA-BASEMENT TAPES VOL.1

Do you miss Envy On The Coast like I do? Well this doesn't sound much like them, but it is however good. We see a lot more aggression than on EOTC releases, we have the member from Dillinger Escape Plan to thank for that. Chaotic as all heck at times and at times playing with time signatures, while staying somewhat catchy, this has potential. This is emotionally engaging and instrumentally smart, something fresh for sure.Ryan Hunter's voice lays over everything with that crazy tone of his.Dig it!

RAISING THEOS-FALLING BEHIND EP

I'm sure most of us have heard of Tides Of Man, and their ex-lead singer/ now Saosin's  singer Tillian. Well this is apparently his girlfriend's band. This is a really solid EP if I say so myself, some really great Circa Survive type stuff (not quite as good) but they are defiantly a band to watch out for. The duo vocalists compliment each other very well, lots of great harmonies. Some interesting guitar work as well (expected for that genre). I've know about this for like 6 months and it's worked it's way into regular rotation.

Track listing:
01.Deceiving Hope [03:45]
02.All My Life [03:20]
03.Hollow One [03:27]
04.Far From Home [04:06]
05.Forget [04:19]

BAD RABBITS-STICK UP KIDS

A newly rising funk infused group. They've played for as a back up band for artists such as Travis McCoy and Mos Def but just recently they decided to do their own thing. They may be unsigned but they have the support of previously mentioned artist who generate the little hype surrounding them. This is the only good time party music I can stand. Dig it.

Track listing:
1. Booties
2. Neverland
3. She’s Bad
4. Stick Up Kids
5. Girl I’m Like Damn!
6. Advantage Me
7. Can’t Back Down

ENEMIES-WE'VE BEEN TALKING

A mostly instrumental math rock band hailing from Ireland, coming up in the same scene as legends Adebisi Shank did previously. This band is really huge in Japan, after their first EP came out they were signed to two labels there and played two sold out weeks in Japan. They play a lot of shows with "And So I Watch You From Afar" who  is also gaining some hype on websites like pitchfork(ew). Anyways, some good tunes on this record, some really inviting sounds that just pull you into the album and before you know it you're six songs in. Really incredible driving or studying music.

1. Backaches & Cardigans
2. Nag Champa
3. Fierce Pit Bosses
4. Gabbi Gabby

DAMERIA-M(US)IC

The first of two full lengths from this incredible band. To me, this band is the perfect bridge between progressive math rock orientated style and a raw punk rock feel. At no point does this feel like it's music elitists looking and laughing "You don't get it" it's just good music that happens to be instrumentally complex. Most of the songs are pretty fast paced, having a sort of PM Today feel. They are inked to Equal Vision who I'm a pretty big fanboy of (they signed Circa Survive) minus WCAR they have a super solid line up. I digress, some awesome songs on this record, don't miss out!

Track Listing:
  1. "Immure" – 3:16
  2. "Lessons" – 3:38
  3. "M(US)IC" – 3:22
  4. "Via Invested" – 3:13
  5. "I AM Pulse" – 3:09
  6. "Ember Eason" – 3:39
  7. "Departures" – 1:59

  9. "Broken Hands" – 3:27
  10. "Obsessions" – 3:00

This is a band that needs more attention in the states, they are a punk band from England. And let me tell you this is some of the most pissed music I've heard in a while. They have two records under their belt and a rather forgettable first EP. Check this shit out!

The Felix Culpa- Sever Your Roots

Man, I'll never understand how mediocre bands get huge and bands like this are left in the dust. This is yet another great band that broke up in this year. They had two glorious full lengths and an EP to their name. I saw them once with The Dear Hunter and they completely stole the show. They were for sure a live band to be reckoned with and on record they sound great too. They play a grown up, passionate form of post-hardcore in the vein of Thrice during Vheissu. As soon as you listen to the first 10 seconds of this record you realize that people don't make music like this anymore. Get into it.

1. New Home Life (7:29)
2. Our Holy Ghosts (6:17)
3. The Constant (4:46)
4. Roots (1:24)
5. Escape to the Mountain, Lest Thou Be Consumed (6:58)

Your Best Friend-S/T

This is a fantastic band that broke up over the summer, they were unsigned the entire time they were a band and still managed the tour extensively for some thing like 5 years. Their electrically emotional live show was a staple in the Michigan scene for so long. I've seen them personally about 10 times and they were flawless every time. The fact that they are no longer making music together is probably the main reason behind me not having faith in the music industry anymore. So I decided to put this up here to share this wonderful music, I'm sure these dudes won't mind. Just check out their guitarists/ vocalist/keyboardist's new project American Opera.

Dear and The Headlights- Drunk Like Bible Times

So this is the second full length from a band that was inked to Equal Vision Records and was criminally underrated. The play a blend of indie-pop/ southern rock ( I guess that's the best way to describe it). Everything they release is gloriously sloppy sounding, in a good way, it sound like everything is falling off the tracks. The pianos are almost prevalent as the guitars on this gem and the singer has a certain coon to his voice that goes fro soft to shouting in a wonderful way. They know how to write a hell of a catchy song. Look no further than "Talk About".

Track listing
